A 7 year old student from Skyline Elementary went missing from the school sometime after 8:45AM Friday.  The sheriff's office is asking volunteers to stay away from the school search but for neighbors near the school to thoroughly search their property.  Here is the quote from the KPTV news article as of midday Saturday:

Searchers Ask Neighbors To Search PropertyMultnomah County deputies asked that civilian volunteers stay away from the search scene Saturday. With a number of neighboring police agencies and the FBI helping in the search, deputies said civilian volunteers searching in the area will only complicate the process. "We would appreciate if the civilian volunteers keep Kyron in your prayers, but please don't come to the scene because it affects our efficiency," Gates said. Neighbors who live near Skyline Elementary School have been asked to perform a "no-stone-unturned" search of their property. "It would be very, very helpful to our process. If they find anything out of place, contact us through our tip line," Gates said. Skyline School is located at 11536 NW Skyline Blvd. in northwest Portland. Anyone who may have any information on Kyron’s whereabouts is asked to call 503-261-2847. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with the CSI logo on it.

Day 6 1200 Excerpts from Noon Briefing Regarding Kyron Horman Search with Family Statement-

June 9, 2010
Noon Briefing
Capt. Jason Gates

Lt. Mike Shults, the liaison between the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and the Horman family, read the following statement on behalf of the family:

Kyron’s family would like to thank everyone for their support and interest in finding their son. The outpouring of support and continued effort strengthens their hope. We need for folks to continue to assist us in our goal. Please search your properties, your cars your outbuildings, your sheds. Also check with your neighbors and friends who may be on vacation or may need assistance to search their property.

There are a lot of resources out there to help. Please don’t stop.

It is obviously a difficult time and they want to speak to the public so they can hear from Kyron’s family as they come together to share their message. Their objective is to keep the focus on Kyron and not about anything else.

Shults also said that the family chose not to be at the press conference because they wanted to keep the focus on Kyron and not on them.

In terms of the search, we can tell you that we have requested and are implementing the state-wide Search and Rescue plan. This involves calling up several hundred sheriff's office – affiliated teams from throughout Oregon. To date, we have had a great multi-jurisdictional response from surrounding counties in terms of everyone providing SAR teams. This is a natural progression of that… This plan is cutting edge in terms of how SAR teams operate and deploy. We are one of the first states in the country to develop and use such a plan, and we are very thankful for the resources they provide. We anticipate that these crews will be on the ground working by early tomorrow.

We will have more on this at our 4 pm briefing today.

The FBI's Mobile Command Post arrived just a short while ago. It is the process of being set up. It will provide additional space and resources for our large staff of investigators.. including work stations, Internet access and other such items.

PRAYER VIGIL

A letter from Rachel Hansen:

Today is the day that we are moving forward on a prayer/candlelight vigil for the community for Kyron Horman.  We are going to set the date for Tuesday, June 15th and start moving forward with the planning.

Each of you are on this email list, because you are a vital part in planning and already have an interest in Kyron's life and disappearance.  We are seeking a vigil for the purpose of praying Kyron safely home, praying for his family and friends, and to give the community a venue in which to show their care, and support. It may also serve a secondary purpose of media attention, and the ONLY purpose of this is to further Kyron's name and face and recognition of this case.  It only takes ONE good tip to bring Kyron home. In this we place HOPE.

I have been in contact with Skyline Moms in Touch, moms.  They have prayer sheets and scripture as reference that we would like to use in guided prayer for small groups who arrive.

I know that we would like to have the event after work/school. We need to set a time.

We have talked about having Sunset open (as in the National Prayer day) maybe just in the sanctuary, for people who might like to pray during the day.

We have Becky Owens who has offered to write a press release with PROPER contact names, so that media attention stays focused only on the task at hand, furthering Kyron's story and picture for the purpose of recognition locally and across the country.

We have chosen Sunset Presbyterian for it's size, proximity to the Location of Kyron's family, school and disappearance, and because we have an indoor venue option because of Weather.

These events are NEVER planned, we all need to work together for this to happen.  Michelle Shipley has done some research on Vigils and later this afternoon I can forward relevant material on.

If you have input, thoughts, or people who can help, please email me.
My home phone number is 503 439 9331
It is my great HOPE and PRAYER than Kyron is found before Tuesday. But if he comes home at a later date, let us prepare to pray him back collectively on Tuesday, June 15th.

This effort is also in conjuction with Mike Cook and Becky Owens, two other Portland transplanted Shorecrest High School Graduates and Friends of Kaine's.
Praying with you,
Rachel Hansen
(Member of Sunset Pres, Fellow Seattle High School Grad and Friend of Kyron's dad, and mother of three elementary school kids)

Kyron Update

The news conference today indicated that the investigation is transitioning into a criminal investigation. A reward fund of $25,000 has been established by the sheriff's office.

Out-of-state search and rescue has been called off of the search. The search operations are being scaled down significantly. Local searchers will continue in a targeted and on-call basis.

All food donations related to SRN are being suspended pending further information. Cash donations are pending review of the ongoing need. However, all excess donations during this time go directly to Multnomah County Search and Rescue.

Thank you so much for everything. We have done a major update of the SRN site and we will keep the site updated.
